INFORMATION ON FLAMINGO BALL

CMRA/RAD Host Conference 2005 is proud to present the Flamingo Ball on the very first night of the conference week, which is Tuesday, July 19th at 7 p.m. This is truly an opportunity for you to mingle with your old friends as well as meeting new faces before the conference gets carried away with many other activities as the week progresses. The Flamingo Ball Committee is ecstatic to welcome MJ Bienvenu as the keynote speaker. She currently works at Gallaudet University as Chair of Department of ASL and Deaf Studies, Diversity Fellow for the Academic Affairs and Co-chair of the Sorenson Language and Communication Center. MJ has been a renowned ASL teacher and presenter on issues related to ASL, Deaf Culture, and Bilingual Education for Deaf children, interpretation, and oppression/empowerment. She is in a long-term commitment with her partner.
The main objective of the Flamingo Ball is to get you in the spirit! So by doing this, we will have a fun trivia contest of where up to 10 people will be randomly selected and respond to questions on the stage. There we will have nice prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners who had the most correct responses. But that is not it; we will also have a flamingo costume contest where prizes will be awarded to three winners based on the following criteria: one with the most creative costume, or the best eye-catching costume, or the most original costume.

There is another reason why you should not miss the Flamingo Ball. We will have a very delicious buffet to keep you satiated throughout the evening and cash bars for your enjoyment. In addition, we have hired a professional Deaf DJ band and there will be a huge wood floor for you to dance your night away.

I guarantee this event will bring out plenty of "oh, my," "boy, am I glad to be here!," "it is so much fun," etc. And it will be the much-talked-about event, including plenty of "you should have been there" to those who missed it.

I want to recognize and thank my flamingoes on the committee who have worked so hard thus far to make this event be memorable for you: Chris Brawner, Scott Carollo, James Kisiday, Mark McKay, Alex Richey, and Timo Worthylake.

Finally, I hope to see many of you -- the flamingoes -- there. After all, flamingoes do gather in large concentrations, so be it!

Aaron Fudenske
Coordinator, Flamingo Ball Committee
