What is CMRA?
Capital Metropolitan Rainbow Alliance,
Inc is a 501(c)(3)-certified non-profit organization formed
in May 1977, which caters exclusively to the needs and interests
of the metropolitan D.C. area Deaf Gays and Lesbians. CMRA is
affiliated with the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf and is one
of their international Chapter (USA and Canada).
Officers and members
A seven-member Executive Board runs the
organization. These seven officer positions are:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Public Affairs
- Cultural Affairs
- Community Liaison
Activities
CMRA is mainly a social/cultural/educational
organization. Fellowship and the need to stay in touch are very
important to the area's Deaf Gays & Lesbians. Social outlets
include the "coffeehouses" which offers a different/theme
each time. One such coffeehouse may be a get-together at a local
bar, another may be a beach outing. CMRA frequently hosts parties,
both for fund raising and for plain simple fun.
